Cross River State Governor, Ben Ayade, has explained why he didn't ban open grazing or pass the anti grazing law in his state. Ina statement he gave for the readons for how action.

He described as draconian the anti-grazing law by some southern governors. He spoke just as the state chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) expressed fears that if Ayade failed to sign the law, he would be inviting anarchy to the state.

Ayade had queried the law, saying: “How would you as a nation declare illegitimate a legitimate trade of the people, the nomadic herdsmen. Even though Southern governors have made it very clear that all southern governors must pass the anti-open grazing law, Cross River has not.

I have not because I cannot ask my herdsmen brothers whether of Northern or Southern extraction to shut down their trade and stay confined to a place whether they have the pasture or not.”

Reactions have trailed Ayade's explanation and Nigerian populace has resulted in calling him names and tagging him appellations that further showcase him as a northern puppet, here are some reactions to his thought.

This man isn't serious and his interests are completely misplaced . For centuries, saner countries embraced ranching and stopped open-grazing to quell conflicts between farmers and livestock owners.

But this governor is doing the complete opposite by allowing nomadic practices to continue, hence compromising the safety of his state. I just pray Cross River doesn't end up like some Northern states that have conflict with herdsmen daily.

Every politics is local; that is what Ayade doesn’t seem to remember. He wants to be popular in the north and unpopular in the south in general and in Cross River in particular.

With this attitude of his, any APC guber candidate he supports in 2023 will fail woefully in 2023. And if he wants APC to give him presidential ticket or make him vice presidential candidate, it is close to impossible now that he has made himself enemy of the south. I wonder who advises these guys sometimes....Prof wey no get sense.
