The popular Lake Chad, which is the source of water supply for the Nigerian lake Chad water basin project is under a threat of drought as the Lake itself is reportedly drying up. The Chadian president who reported the observation to President Buhari insisted that only 10% of the initial water is left in the lake, this poses a huge threat to people's life and all habitants living in the region.

A statement issued by the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Chief Femi Adesina quoted President Buhari as saying, “It is imperative that there be water transfer to the Lake Chad from the Congo Basin so that the people can resume their normal lives.” He added that with inter-basin water transfer, farming, fishing, animal husbandry would resume, and curtail irregular migration of youths, who now dare the Sahara Desert and the Mediterranean Sea, to get into Europe, seeking greener pastures.

The survivor of people living in the area remains the main priority of the two state leaders, hopefully, something tangible will come out of it. On the recharge of Lake Chad, he counselled the Nigerian President to consider convening an international summit to move the idea forward.
