Biden expanded vaccine mandates for nursing home employees and encouraged entertainment venues to implement vaccine mandates
President Joe Biden asked unvaccinated Americans on Thursday to "please do the right thing" and get their COVID-19 shots. He also signed an executive order as part of a six-pronged strategy to reduce the spread of the Delta variant.
The order mandates federal employees be fully vaccinated without the option for testing, mandates companies with 100 employees or more to provide paid leave for workers to get vaccinated, provide loans for businesses impacted by the prolonged pandemic, among other measures. "Our patience is wearing thin and refusal has cost all of us," Biden said.
President Biden says the U.S. is "in the tough stretch" of the pandemic "and it could last for a while."He blames the Delta variant, unvaccinated Americans and "elected officials actively working to undermine the fight against COVID-19," which he says is "totally unacceptable" "I'm announcing that the Department of Labor is developing an emergency rule to require all employers with 100 or more employees, that together employ over 80 million workers, to ensure their workforces are fully vaccinated or show a negative test at least once a week."
