The secondary schools in Nigeria are slated to open on August 4 following nationwide lockdown due to the covid-19 pandemic.

The Federal Ministry of Education has announced the opening of secondary schools on the 4th of August 2020, the disclosure was made known to the public today 27th of July 2020.

According to the statement, the secondary schools allowed to open on 4th of August 2020 is to put into considerations the final year students who is to write the West African Examination Council (WAEC) this year.

The commencement of the secondary school educational sector will only allow the students studied for just two weeks in preparations for their final year examinations which is to commence on August 10th 2020.

The decision to reopen secondary schools in the country was decided through a virtual meeting of the ministry of education and the Nigerian Union of Teachers through a virtual Meeting.

There’s also a decision to appeal to the federal government through the covid-19 task force to fast track the safe guarding of the reopening in order to established a safe environment for resuming students

Should the slated date be allowed to stand, there’s hope for tertiary institutions student whose academic activities and commencement has been truncated since the outbreak of the pandemic and subsequent lockdown of higher institutions all around the country.
