The federal government only made a 2.7% provision for healthcare in the 2022 budget. Haruna Mashellia (APC, Borno) also made a strong case for the budget to the healthcare sector to be increased.

The lawmaker faulted the proposed allocation to the sector, and called for a minimum of 10 per cent of the budget to go healthcare. The raging pandemic followed by deterioration of the healthcare system should played a very significant role in healthcare budgetary increment.

“When we had the pandemic last year, we discovered that the health system was very weak. I thought we would have learnt our lesson. Look at the budget before us, you will discover that health has only 2.7%,” the lawmaker argued.

The debate into the general principle of the bill continued today
