The 17 governors from the Southern region have unanimously agreed that the next President of Nigeria should emerge from the region. This was the resolution of the Southern Governors’ Forum at the end of a meeting, which was held at Lagos House, Alausa, on Monday.

Also, the apex Igbo socio-cultural organisation, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, has urged the Southern Governors Forum to zone the 2023 presidency to the South-East in the interest of fair play and justice.

The governors had met on Monday in Ikeja, Lagos State, to deliberate on the state of the nation. the governors declared support for rotational presidency, saying the next president should come from the South.

But the decision is yet to have a cogent mindset following the ohaneze stance on making sure the candidate comes from the south East. The south western oligarchy also have an interest in Aso Rock and have worked for it all along.

These explains and subsequently establish a concurrent show down between the East and the West on the presidential candidates comes 2023. It also promises a show down between the south and the north.
