Turkey is emerging as a potentially key player in Afghanistan post-US withdrawal. It has strong convening power, warm ties with many regional players, and most importantly a willingness to be a security provider. It’s hard to imagine any other NATO member playing a role like this.

Not saying or even suggesting that Turkey (or Pakistan) would not do as suits its interests. Turkey clearly has a desire to play the role that I outlined. It has already offered to host a peace conference and is discussing the possibility of securing the Kabul airport.

Turkey appears to influence all parties to the conflict while maintaining good relations with most regional countries & global influencers on Afghanistan. When issues arise and friction increases Turkey appears to have limited leverages and it could become just another contender.
