THE AUTHORIZED MENACE ON HIGHWAY PATROL

The federal highway in Nigeria is becoming a menace by the day through the activities of the Nigerian uniformed officers. All in the name of ensuring security and safe guarding the life and properties of the traveling citizens.

The Nigerian Police, road safety officers and other uniformed men of the force has turned the federal highway to their extortion point after been curtailed of their irregular excesses within town.

A menace I witnessed on the highway sometimes ago while the nationwide lockdown was winding down was an eyesore, a transporter was stopped along Ibadan/Ife express way, while all its passenger was checked out, a younger fellow was delayed while the officers adviced the driver to move on without the guy,

I was in a protesting mode so I had to make sure the driver wouldn’t go anywhere without taking the guy along. His offense was that he was using an iPhone and look too young to the officers to own one.

After his phone and luggages was thoroughly searched with nothing in them to indict him, the story was now focused on his dread hair and fair completion, with an allegation that he’s toning his skin, which is against the officers personal orientation.

To cut the long story short, the guy was finally released and we eventually moved together to our destinations, but my fear is for those who might not have the opportunity of having someone to stand with them in this regard,

what will be the fate of such a younger fellow and what exactly will be his end if he couldn’t meet their excessive cash demand and conditionality.

It’s about time the excesses of these uniform men be curtailed and checked once and for all else this menacing activities poses a serious threat to travelers on our highway.

It will be a harsh reality if the populace or individual youth decide to take laws into their own hands in fighting this menacing dispositions of the country’s uniform men. This will subsequently result to the break down of law and order and the resulting effect will be devastatingly destructive.

Despite consistent outcry from all corner of the country, the government continually handle the destructive activities of these uniformed men with levity, It’s worthy of note that subsequent reaction through the taking up of arms and ammunition’s against the uniformed organization by the youth will not end well.

We continually urge the government to look into these devilish activities and subsequently find a means to create a lasting solution to these menace posed by the arm of government tasked with the protection of lives and properties but in reality destroying it. It’s about time.
