The Senate begins Donald Trump’s second impeachment trial with a fight over whether the proceeding is constitutional. The Senate begins Donald Trump’s second impeachment trial on Tuesday with a fight over whether the proceeding is constitutional, as a number of conservative lawyers reject the defense team’s claim that a former president can’t be convicted of a crime by Congress.

Republican senators have advanced the constitutional question as the main justification for acquittal. Most of them have avoided directly defending Trump’s actions leading up to and on the day his supporters stormed the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6. The Senate face the issue head on as the first step in the process, with four hours of debate scheduled Tuesday on the constitutional question, followed by a simple majority vote.
The discussions between Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer and Republican leader Mitch McConnell will be very surprised if even ten Republican Senators vote to impeach. They are either scared of trump or the base. It will be an exercise in futility. But it must be attempted. The entire world saw him incite a mob of rabid trumpers. Republicans know it too. We have to have the trial to document the seriousness of Trump’s insurrection.

This is a second chance for the GOP to do the right  thing, to be on the right side of history that is right and just for Amrican country, values and laws. But some Grand Old Pansies  afraid of Trump and pro Trump constituents wouldn't let it happen, and suddenly the rule of law and its upholding becomes a second fiddle and the country looked upon by the word as the upright ee of just and righteousness has been shaken to the core of its values. With no obvious repercussion at sight for the offender.
