On tuesday night, some gunmen unknown attacked and opened fire at Anara Market in the Isiala Mbano Local Government Area of Imo State, killing four people in the process of the violence.

Some witness narrates the story that the hoodlums operated in a white Sienna van, opening fire on arrival at a spot where a woman sold cooked food and attacked those eating with the food vendor.

One of the eyewitnesses who is an indigene of the community said they didn’t even come down. They just opened fire in the direction and kept shooting as they drove by. This is very unimaginable.

“Nobody knows the reason for the killing. It has never happened here before. One of the victims is a motorcyclist who came to eat. This is unfortunate. You can see that this whole place is deserted. Many people ran away.”

Another eyewitness said that the corpses of three of the persons who died were immediately evacuated on Wednesday morning.

An indigene attribute the attack on the basis that they held their martlet at night. According to him "Those gunmen were IPOB enforcers. Cost of things are getting so high now in the east cause of IPOB lockdown activities."

"People can't go about their normal lives in the east anymore. The most we have here now are evening markets and two or three days in a week. Its getting worse by the day"
