Family is the basic smallest unit of the social institutions which
contains: father, mother, children and nuclear family.

According to the english dictionary, family could be seen as a group of people and
kindred, classified together as one. And when use adjectively, it then
becomes a haven, avenue, designed and suitable for the development of
both children and adults.

An African proverbs says” It takes a village to raise a child.” And talking about family,
especially in modern days; it has become faded into time. The idea of, or what it means to be part of a family is now an ‘unlawful’ utterances in some people’s ears.

I belief one of the most crucial questions everyone should ask about life is: Why should I need family? What if I decided to be lonely? Its very much possible we loose a sense of familyhood, because of our up-bringing, childhood experiences and stories we inherited from our predecessors; religion beliefs and practices.

There could be chasm between families as a result of different ideologies, perspectives
towards life’s activities. Some which are mostly coloured by our selfishness and indulgence.
Some families would have maintained their oneness and uniformity, if not until when one’s stagnancy and misfortune in life was tied to his/her family. Little emphasis is placed on family this days that, as a result, it reflect in our dealings and relationship, even with our friends, neighbours(those not blood-related). We also have the examples of fathers’ who left their
family(both wife and the kids) in order to enjoy ‘life’ as they normally say.

Some vacate home for a long period of time, of which some never return. The most convenient and intended platform for raising children, prepared to take the mantle of leadership in our society has now lost its ground. The same with the adults whom suppose to easily express their strength and sense of responsibility, which the children can imitate, is now becoming a den of hostility and
unforgiveness.

“Return to old watering holes for more than water; friends and dreams
are there to meet you.”
~ African proverb
