Crowds continue to clash with police and military in cities across South Africa and at least 117 people have been killed in the ongoing unrest as of Thursday July 15,
According to a briefing by Acting Minister in the Presidency Khumbudzo Ntshavheni. Over 2,000 people have been arrested as of Thursday, as well, according to Ntshavheni.
The protests, which marked their sixth day on Thursday, follow the jailing of ex-president Jacob Zuma for evading a mandatory inquiry related to corruption.
The demonstrations have gained steam around the dire economic situation facing South Africans as the country battles a third wave of COVID-19.
