ECOLOGICAL EFFECTS OF DRONE FLYING ON WILDLIFE
An Orange County nesting site was abandoned after a drone scared away a colony of elegant terns. This is one of just four in the world.
Some 3,000 elegant terns fled the Bolsa Chica Ecological Reserve after a drone crashed there, leaving behind 1,500 to 2,000 eggs, none of them viable.
Nobody is sure what happened to the birds, which are highly sensitive to perceived threats. How sad, drone users needs to be more aware of any wildlife they could cause an extinction level event by flying near them in the future.
If delivery by drone really takes off there might be an extinction event affecting a not so rare species. The unforeseen ramifications of drone delivery should be the subject of much study before it is ever implemented.
It's also important to investigate the effects on wildlife in general. I find on YouTube all the bizarre footage where ravens, seagulls, and other larger birds attack drones. That seems rare exceptions, but think in terms of millions of drones in the sky.
