PUBLIC COURT ON THE UNITED STATES PLAN TO BOYCOTT 2022 CHINA OLYMPIC GAMES

The Olympics games to be held in China in 2022 are becoming a hot political topic on both sides of the aisle. Republican senators including Rick Scott and Jim Inhofe have pressed for the Games to be moved elsewhere, while Republican colleague Mitt Romney has advocated for an economic and diplomatic boycott that still allows for U.S. athletes to compete. The Biden administration has repeatedly called the Chinese treatment of its Uighur minority a genocide, and has promised to hold the government accountable for its actions.

While United States is considering a boycott of the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing, according to the U.S. State Department. In reaction to this, the general populace have voiced their opinion on the plan of the United States to boycott the events, claiming the whole world should have boycotted the last one in china. They used slave labor to build all the facilities and kicked everyone living in the area where they were built off their homes. The world should be telling china no more often.

We got way too many Olympics now. Like it happens every year. What happened to the actual olypmipcs that happens only once every four years? Like the real Olympics? So weird. Regular Olympics and the X-Games is all we need. None of that stupid-ass Winter or Spring Olympics. Stop using the athletes to boycott, that’s just punishing them, nobody else. Try economic and diplomatic boycotts. Yes, the inhumane treatment of the Uighur minority is by all means genocide and it should be dealt with by other means than this. At least try other ways.

I damn know for sure that if I spent my whole life working for one goal, I wouldn’t preform and accomplish it in front of people committing mass genocide. This isn’t the last Olympics in history. This is possibly the worst take of all time. The people who make the Olympics are at their absolute peak professionally. That window is very very small. Four years is an eternity to athleticism. Imagine a 24 year old and a 28 year old. You literally are destroying dreams.

Pretty sure genocide outweighs that, you're comparing a few people to millions killed?. What do the athletes gotta do with this? Some people trained their whole life for this moment. China doesn't care and would just boycott American sports, itd be useless. You're forgetting it's not about the athletes. You're happy to give China all that revenue and positive media coverage? I agree, boycotting these games only hurts athletes, and won’t change China. They’ll just boycott the next US-based Olympics in retaliation.

Let’s hold the 2022 Winter Olympics somewhere else. Wish it was that easy but it takes years for a country to prepare for the Olympics and it costs a lot of money to host. i don't think it would be too difficult for one of the previous recent hosts to host another olympics, all the stadiums are still there. It costs roughly 5 billion dollars so most likely not but it can be a first try. almost all of that is in construction and infrastructure though, which has already happened in previous host cities. Travel, hotels, flights, organizations, performers, ruled and guidelines for safety, security the list goes on, its not and can not be planned in 5 months, its to big of an event.
