BURNA HOME COMING: GOV. WIKE’S POCKET DEEP ENOUGH TO WELCOME GRAMMY WINNER

I thought Burna was a freedom fighter and one of the fore runners of the #EndSARS movements until I heard Gov. Wike gifted him a land and a couple of millions for his home coming concert.

Burna Boy has been gifted land in Old GRA, Port Harcourt and money to build by Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike. He also promised to give each Artiste who performed at Burna's Homecoming Concert in Rivers State, Nigeria N10 million ($24,411) each.  Spending such money on a Grammy winner for a home coming concert is mismanagement of funds,  why not task him to do something lucrative for his people, rather than splashing him with more money.

A little bit disappointed at burna boy too, a Nigerian acts who has actually been seen as a Fela reincarnation with his music and the role he played to dismantle the SARS stronghold during the #EndSARS struggle, one would've thought he's actually one of the people who is ready to tackle the corrupt and older generation of present day government in order to pave way for his young generations. But No...a couple of dollars thrown at him and he quickly forgot his role model.

The idea of just throwing money at  everything is wrong. Burna can afford any land and house. A non-monetary lifetime honour would have added more value to Burna Boy but Gov. Wike like other politicians only think in cash. Either some argue it's an act of appreciation or not. Or the argument that Grammy wrote an article of burna boy and actually included "River States Nigeria" in the article, he has clearly taken Rivers internationally either anyone like it or not doesn't justifies the act.

Irrespective of whatever anyone says, for a Country like Nigeria it is wrong to lavish state money on a personal achievrment, it's only Africans that show appreciation with money, we must be wise enough to distinct foolery from appreciation Grammy is an Award  and Rivers is a State, these are two different entities that there lines must not be blurred in this situation.

If Wike wants to appreciate him for "including Rivers State in an article Grammy" wrote according to the gospel, it's not the best thing to throw money at him. Why cant Wike just name a street after him, it's not a surprise that some people out of whatever sentiments or affiliate will support anything even when it is morally reprehensible. A good administrator of public finances will not do what Wike did either with the state's money or his personal money. It was wrong and disrespectful to Rivers states and its people, except of course, they don't mind.

Although another comparison could've been that Goodluck Jonathan gifted Nigeria team in 2013 huge sum and gave Keshi a house in Abuja. While president Buhari gave a paralympians who won gold some money too, so how can wike's benevolent be the problem. But those examples sighted are actually represented the nation (NIGERIA) Burna boy didn't represents River state more than he represent Nigeria at the Grammys. In another perspectives, the home coming noise is a tribalistic idea. He has done something great for himself and his country and not so much more for River state and this shouldn't be forgotten in a hurry.
